| 7000 series gForce cards are so cheap these days, you should be able build a cheap box that can pwn source.
Make sure you get at least CAS 2.5 RAM (if you're upgrading the RAM) is only other thing I'd make sure of. Otherwise any caveman can build a decent box cheap.
Mine old as these days though, I will probably upgrade at the end of the year. Mine's A64 4000 (I think), 1 gig CAS2.5 RAM, crappy 6600GT card, and a silly amount of HDD space (700 gig).
If I was going to upgrade I'd get the same amount of RAM at 533 or 566 MHz or whatever it is, the fast one these days, the best Core DUO chip I could afford (with 1 GHz FSB), and the best 7000 graphics card I can afford (no less than 7900GT, since they are cheap anyway, or they are in Korea anyway).
Biggest thing for a fps gamer has got to be a fast and big TFT screen though. Sleep's is leet, 2ms 19 inch. That's pretty much exactly what I'd want.
I don't know much about the latest AMD chips though, apparently they are better bang for buck for gaming, but they annoy me because the one I have now is shitballs at multi-tasking. I prefer my old HT P4 (which unfortunately melted). | |

| Yea top of the line is always a rip, one down is usually the bang for buck. I so wanna get at least a dual-GPU card next time though. Dual GPU/Dual or quad CPU... mmmm multitasking madness... I love multitasking. | |
